I’ve been in a bit of a bind lately as doctors have bounced me around, one to another. It seems everyone has an answer for what this “could be” but no one has an answer for how to address my issues. As one who does not do well with uncertainty and prefers to find the root of an issue, all of these “unknowns and maybes” has been a test of persistence and trusting in the Lord. It would be easy in this kind of situation to simply follow the directions of the doctors, take the prescribed medication, and wait for things to get better. However, every time I turn to the Word and ask for God’s direction, He has made it clear “go to the doctor.”
As one doctor has passed me along to the next, God has continued to direct me to “go again.” And every time I am told there is no appointment available or I need to wait until June, July, or September to be seen, “all of a sudden” an appointment opens up. As I have continued to ask, seek, and knock, the Lord has been faithful to open doors and appointments on my behalf. Most recently, I made over 40 calls (yes, 40!) trying to get an appointment to see a specialist. Every location had a wait through June or October. But I kept calling. I kept asking. I pulled every card I had to help them understand my urgency. Call after call, I was told “sorry, we can see you in June.” I didn’t relent. I persisted. I didn’t fear bugging people, I feared waiting months to address a clear health concern. So I called again and again.
After some persistence on my side, I received a call saying that the previously only available appointment for June, is now open to me TOMORROW. The amazing part, the person who called said “we just got a cancellation and I know you kept calling so I put you first on my list.”
This reminds me of a story of a widow who kept asking a judge for justice and after ignoring her for some time, he finally gave in because she kept ASKING.
Sometimes God waits for you to let go before He steps in, but sometimes, God wants you to persist and keep asking so that He can step in. He’s not afraid of our ask, He welcomes it.
I hope this encourages you and me today, to keep asking for your breakthrough. Keep seeking the Lord for direction. And keep knocking until that door opens. He will answer.
Luke 18:1-5 - One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”
Matthew 7:7 -Jesus said, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you”
