Just a Sheep

A few years ago I visited Ireland and it was gorgeous. The people there were so joyful and I couldn't help but notice how freely parents let their kids be kids without overwhelming or restraining them unnecessarily. This was in stark contrast to London where it seemed most people, even kids, were guarded and indifferent. But Ireland, Ireland was a breath of fresh air. The land of 40 shades of green truly brought a refreshing to my soul.

As I ventured around, I recall commenting "even the sheep look happy!" Oh, to be a sheep! No cares in the world, just happily jumping around green pastures. And as much as I sat there, reflecting on how carefree these animals seemed, I couldn't help but feel "this is exactly how God intended for us to be." Casting our cares on Him, letting Him pour oil over our heads, and resting in green pastures.

He never intended for us to carry all of our burdens, He intended to carry them for us. Sometimes, we think we need to do everything on our own, but God promises to help us and give us strength. When we turn to Him and let Him do the heavy lifting, it frees space within to allow for that happy, sheep-like, carefree posture. If you're carrying a little too much today and could use a break, I encourage you to turn to the Lord and pray "Lord, thank you that your yoke is light and easy. I release this burden to you and receive your help. Amen."

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30
