At Disney, you'll find many (many) people decked out with Disney gear, Mickey ears, and Disney inspired outfits. It's normal and expected to be dressed like Disney at Disney. And I'm all for it. I have a growing collection of Mickey ears and Disney tees to prove it. And I'll rock my Mickey ears all day at the theme parks. However, whenever I am on my way to the parks rocking those same Mickey ears, I don't quite seem to fit in, I don't blend in with my surroundings. On the contrary, I quite literally stand out.
And this is exactly how we as Christians are to the world around us, not quite fitting in, not blended in with culture. We are made to stand out. Made to shine the light of God all around us. You don't need to go viral to stand out; we have a God who went viral when He took the cross 2000 years ago. It's easy to think we need to "do something" to stand out or shine, but the Holy Spirit living inside of us will shine through us, through our actions, our love, and our life. When you're standing in line at a grocery store, helping a customer at work, or eating lunch with coworkers. Through the words you chose to use or the words you chose not to use. Don't think you need to do big things for the Lord. We can stand out everyday, through how we live our life. Through our simple acts of honor and love. Today, ask the Holy Spirit how you are made to stand out and ask for help walking in that today.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." -Matthew 5:14 (NIV)
