Today my husband and I ventured to North Carolina for a writer's retreat. The seven hour drive ahead seemed nothing in comparison to the many years I've waited to attend this conference. But as soon as we hit the open road (meaning the Starbucks parking lot), I noticed our rental car housed some ants. Then I noticed more ants. And soon enough I became itchy, feeling like ants were all over me.
Up to this point, our plans were working out effortlessly, so I wasn't too concerned with the minor set back. I quickly called the rental agency, expecting a quick car exchange and to be on our way. However, call after call, the rental agency locations all reported the same bad news - there were no available cars. We decided to go directly to the agency for assistance. Still, they reported the same news.
Now, our God is not a small God and He is even in the tiniest details. Just as discouragement attempted to settle in, the phone rang - a customer canceled their car reservation, leaving a car open just for us. Even better, it was a nicer car then our first.
Here's the thing, dreaming is easy. Doing the dreams, well that takes courage, perseverance, and maybe even ants.
There will often be challenges or setbacks that can cause us to question our dreams or give up altogether. It can be discouraging to hit a speedbump or a minor failure as you are pursuing your dreams. However, God remind us that obstacles can serve as stepping stones to propel us closer to our dreams.
In the face of challenges, we have a choice: to let them discourage us or to see them as opportunities for God's grace and providence.
