What is it that stops us from starting something new? From taking that one step forward? It’s fear. Plain and simple, we’re afraid.
What are we afraid of? Are we afraid we’ll be ridiculed or that we will fail? Most of us succumb to the lie that it’s too hard for God to help us. The Bible says, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:27 (NIV) These are Jesus’ own words. We know Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, so what He says is true.
Everyone begins somewhere. Nothing is done without a beginning. The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” (NIV) Your steps might be small, but they are steps. Don't be afraid to step out when God has called you to take a step of faith.
It says in Philippians 1:6, “being confident in this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (NIV)
We find our confidence in God, not in ourselves, He can help us do anything. He is the source of all knowledge, wisdom, understanding, strength, courage, and faith. He is the fount of living water that never runs dry. When we rely on Him, we find He gives us what we need when we need it. His timing is always perfect.
Are you stuck, feeling like you can’t move forward? Have you been paralyzed with fear and doubt? Ask God for help and surrender your will to His.
I spent fifteen years stuck in fear and insecurity, not able to step forward because I let those lies rule my life and speak louder than God. When I finally listened to Him, God spoke to me through His Word, books, movies, friends, and finally, professional people who believed in me. Now I have a completed novel and am on the brink of publication. I have watched “giants” and “strongholds” collapse due to God’s ability to accomplish anything. This hasn’t been done in my strength, power, or ability. It’s all God.
He is leading me every step of the way. I don’t know where my path will lead, but I am placing my trust in My Lord, who knows it all, from beginning to end. He knows me and still wants me to fulfill the purpose He has for me. It’s a freeing experience.
So, go ahead - take that one small step. Surrender your dreams to His. Reach out your hand to God. He is always there, ready to help.
