Wired For Connection

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” - Hebrews 10:22-24

At the core of our being, there's a deep desire to connect with others. This isn't just a societal trend or a fleeting feeling; it's rooted in how God created us. We crave meaningful relationships and genuine bonds.

However, life's complexities and challenges can sometimes divert us from this path. We might end up in relationships that seem appealing initially but lack real substance. Sometimes, we even find ourselves in situations or relationships that are more harmful than beneficial.

But when we reflect on our inherent nature, the blueprint becomes clear - God designed us to be part of communities, to lean on one another, and to grow together. He wired us for connection.

We're meant to be in relationships where we support, uplift, and encourage each other. Recognizing this can help us form deeper, more meaningful connections with those around us, mirroring the strong bond we share with God Himself. Here are a few keys to fostering connection in your life and with your community:

Keys To Connection

Connection Must Be Intentional: True connection doesn't happen by accident. Within the body of Christ, each of us holds a unique role. Being merely a passive spectator isn't our calling. Instead, we are called to actively foster relationships, uplifting and motivating one another. It's not about what we can get, but what we can give.

Connection Should Be Influential: Our connections should inspire change and growth. As believers, we aren't just called to coexist but to co-inspire. Every interaction should be a chance to reflect God's grace and guide one another closer to His truths.

Connection Must Be Continual: Just as our faith journey is ongoing, so too should our connections be. Steadfastness in our relationships, especially in faith communities, provides the consistency we all need to thrive and grow.

Connection Must Be Beneficial: The relationships we cultivate should enrich, not drain. A true spiritual bond is rooted in mutual respect, shared growth, and the collective pursuit of God's purpose.

In this age of fleeting digital interactions and superficial ties, let's strive for the connections God intended for us: deep, meaningful, and anchored in His love. Take some time to reflect and consider how you can purposefully connect with others this week.

Reflection:

  1. Reflect on the relationships in your life. Are they intentional? In what ways can you actively foster deeper connections within your faith community?

  2. Reflect on Hebrews 10:22-24: Which part of the verse resonates most with you today? Why?

  3. Brainstorm ways you can actively encourage or "spur on" someone in your community this week.

  4. In a digital age of likes, shares, and fleeting interactions, what does true connection mean to you?

Remember, journaling is a personal journey. Let these prompts guide you, but always allow your heart to lead the way.
