We are bombarded with messages from the moment we are born. Messages that tell us how to be sexy. Messages that tell us we are not enough unless we make more money, have more things or in general how to conduct ourselves. These messages come from multiple sources – advertising, friends, family, strangers and impact who we are, what we think of ourselves, and how we want to be.
But we need voices of truth that are louder than all the critics. God gives us a beautiful picture of who we are. He says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. His masterpiece. His child. AND! He tells us who He is. He is God Almighty. Abba, father. The Great I Am. The Comforter. The Provider. The list goes on.
It is in these identities that we find freedom. Freedom to explore God’s Word – the Bible – and see what He’s written about Himself and us. When we understand, accept, and believe these identities, we strip ourselves of the unreachable standards screamed at us from everywhere else. We settle into these truths and walk in the gifts, talents, and personality traits that He gave us.
If you still struggle with judgement and disapproval of yourself in any area (as many of us do), I hope the following lists of attributes of God help pave the way for a new outlook on yourself and a greater trust in Him.
